Learn How to Sing Online - 3 Keys to Making Online Singing Lessons Work & Becoming a Better Singer

Can you really learn how to sing online? Of course you can, if you go about it the right way. Read on to discover three keys for how to become a singer with the help of online singing lessons, and a big reason why you should give it a go.

1. Take it Seriously

It will only work if you work it. I know that's a cliche, but it's true. So you won't have to face your teacher and be embarrassed if you didn't practice. You're not a kid anymore. You're not practicing for the teacher anymore. You're practicing for YOU. So do it.

2. Singing Is like Playing Tennis or Basketball or Running

What? Indeed. You need to practice for two reasons: skill and stamina. You're not just practicing to get the notes right, although that is important. You need to condition your vocal organs to allow them go get stronger and stronger, to increase your control. It's just like with any other skill. The more you practice, the better you get.

3. Find a way to get feedback

Yes, feedback is important. So you don't have a voice teacher to pick on you. But you still need some way to figure out how close you are to your target. Imagine trying to learn how to play basketball with your eyes closed. Unless you take a special extra step, you may find you're trying to learn to sing with your ears closed.

An online course will give you a certain amount of feedback. But here is a special secret trick I used when I learned new languages, and when I was teaching others German or English, and it works with singing too:

Buy yourself a cheap tape or digital recorder and record yourself right next to the model you're trying to emulate. When we just repeat after the original, our ears can fool us. We don't sound to ourselves the way we sound to others. But if both versions are on tape, yours and theirs, side by side, you'll hear the difference and you can make adjustments until you sound the way you want to sound.

So can you learn to sing from an online course? You bet. Just be sure to follow the three steps I explained above, and you'll soon be singing circles around your friends.

Reasons why you may want to learn how to sing

But singing circles your friends isn't really the main reason why you should consider learning how to sing. So what are good reasons?

Singing feels good. It's one of the most uplifting things you can do. It's really difficult to be sad or depressed while you're singing.

And here's another thing: singing opens up all sorts of social opportunities! People sing in groups and for audiences, so who knows where learning how to sing can take you. And as you've seen, it's not that hard to learn. You don't have to be a world class singer to have fun and enjoy yourself -- and bring joy to the world.

Learn How to Sing High Notes

Amongst the vast range of vocal works, you will find high notes sung in most of the wonderful, heroic, powerful, lofty and passionate musical performances. It's the high notes that bring them their real greatness. Such notes often appear in the climaxes of musical works and inspire the emotions of all who hear them.

Audiences love to listen to high notes and singers like to produce them, so this ideal quirk makes singing high notes hugely desirable all round!

Singing high notes could be described as almost instinctive and is indeed within the human nature. Throughout the world, there will be people of all backgrounds, including native minorities from different nations, who sing high notes in the most passionate manners when their emotions are excited. Letting out feelings via high-note vocals is a universal form of expression.

Whatever the reasons may be, it's true to say that people who enjoy learning to sing are usually in favor of high-note singing. This phenomenon not only occurs in singers who are in the low voice group but also exists for those already in the high voice group as well. However, it is extremely dangerous for anyone to desperately shout high notes. People are often misled by the thought that the higher the notes they've reached by forced straining, the more success they have achieved. Without basic foundation and mastering of the correct singing skills of how to sing high notes, however, this shouting method does much more harm than good!

The singing of high notes actually belongs in the advanced stage of vocal training. There is a lot of confusion surrounding this area of singing and too many people tend to rely on their own methods, or blindly imitate their singing idols to produce high notes with uncontrolled, indiscriminate shouting, causing a lot of negative consequences.

Many people have suffered severe vocal deficiency.

Although I have rich knowledge and experience in the area of singing high, I do not actually advocate that people go ahead and sing notes that exceed their ability, nor do I advocate that people sing high notes frequently without the groundwork of knowing how to sing them correctly. Besides, high notes are not all there is to the average vocal composition. The performance of a piece of vocal work is determined by many factors; it should be comprehensive and all-rounded in nature, delivering various aspects of voice to the audience's ear.

Nevertheless, singing beautiful and enchanting high notes is still a most stirring idea and is one to be encouraged. But being able to sing them well requires training in order to understand the right method for how to sing high notes.
